MANIPULATION

The project uses a variety of manipulation techniques to create innovative designs that are playful and tactile. Using traditional embroidery techniques, Wray has pushed the boundaries of embroidery to create unique designs that reflect a surreal narrative. The use of vibrant colours enhances the sculptural forms by showing contrasting elements.

Wray’s aim was to understand materials through recording the reactions to manipulation techniques. She is motivated by the physical properties of materials and the potential they have within design. By analysing her findings on elasticity, surface texture and colour, it highlighted the main contributors to tactile textiles. Wray found elements of movement and form through these factors, enhancing the aesthetics in turn to create pleasure and satisfaction.

Wray created a project based on her passion for materials and contemporary embroidery. The project found innovative designs from creative making.
